Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ Oscar Win Couldn’t Make Us Any Prouder
The moment “Skyfall” began playing on the radio, nostalgia washed over listeners around the globe. A song of both melancholy and thrill, “Skyfall” has quickly become recognized as one of Adele’s best works. Last week, the timeless song swept up the Oscar for Best Original Song, an honor that is unquestionably deserved. Already having a Golden Globe for the title track and a repertoire as the first female singer to have topped the Billboard artist, singles and album charts all in one year, the award came as no surprise.
Prior to her win, Adele performed “Skyfall” for Oscar guests and viewers at home. As she took to the stage in a glimmering, long black gown, Adele looked graceful as ever, casting a regal presence upon the audience. Soon, her smoky voice filled the air and the song’s ominous lyrics were felt by all who listened.
Afterwards, an emotional Adele thanked everyone from songwriting partner Paul Epworth for “believing in me all the time” to her husband Simon Konecki, saying “my man, I love you baby.” There seems to be no stopping this songstress.

Remember when Lady Gaga showed up at the 2011 Grammys in a prehistoric egg carried by men in gold underwear? Or when a little-known indie artist named Esperanza Spalding enraged millions of teen girls when she stole the “Best New Artist” Grammy limelight from Justin Bieber? 2011 has been filled with such chart-topping phenomenon as Adele’s universal heartbreaker, “Someone Like You,” and education tutorials on the days of the week, courtesy of Miss Rebecca Black. So take a moment and sit tight while we take a peek at 2011′s top Music Moments!
“Call Your Girlfriend” is a track by Swedish singer Robyn, from her Body Talk album released in 2010. It’s an electropop dance number about a girl caught in the middle of a love triangle and who advises her lover on how to gently break it to his girlfriend that he’s got a new gal.
I could state the obvious and say that Adele took 2011 by storm, that by Christmas she’ll have sold 13 million copies of her legendary 21 album and that “Someone Like You” has become the anthem for anyone whose every experienced heartbreak, but I’ll refrain.
