As we gear up for 2012, we couldn’t help but pick “Memories” as our Staff Pick of the Day. It’s the perfect jam to roll up in this NYE and fitting, considering 2011 has witnessed some of the hottest breakthroughs in the music industry.
David Guetta’s “Titanium” is a cinematic wonder. The French DJ recruits Ryan Lee, the kid from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 sci-fi thriller, and channels the film’s surrealism by combining the normalcy of a suburban setting with the supernatural.
It’s a perfect match for the surging energy of Sia, who provides the vocals for the single. Her ghostly voice emanates throughout the clip, as Lee is seen standing in the hallway of an obliterated school.

Last week I had a conversation with a few friends concerning the state of music collaborations. Lately it seems like EVERYONE and their mother’s mother’s mother are collaborating and making “guest” feats. Take David Guetta and Rihanna on “Whose That Chick?” or Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera (she’s back!) on “Moves Like Jagger.” It’s like a cross marketing scheme on overdrive and while it can arguably dilute the artistry that goes into showcasing the individual artists alone, I’ve gotta admit that this recent trend has produced a some formidable music.
That being said, this courtesy does not extend to Bieber Fever (aka Justin Bieber) and Busta Rhymes Christmas specials. First, let me explain.
