STAFF PICK OF THE DAY: British Cuties Make You “Glad You Came”

Confession: We’re currently obsessed with the UK’s latest import, The Wanted. The British + Irish boy band hails from London, England and with their heartbreakingly good looks and too-die-for accents, can you really blame us? The Wanted is comprised of Jay McGuiness, Nathan Sykes, Tom Parker, Max George and Siva Kaneswaran. The group jettisoned onto the music scene with their debut single, “All Time Low,” in July 2010 and has since been breaking hearts and charts across Europe. Now, they’re making moves to claim America as well.
“Glad You Came” is an airy, dance-pop single infused with soaring beats and the boy’s crooning the breezy chorus, “My universe will never be the same, I’m glad you came.” The video itself is a fresh mash-up of the group doing what they do on international party island Ibiza, Spain – which is house parties filled with models having pillow fights, jumping off cliffs, chilling on yachts and clubbing nonchalantly while said models fawn all of over you. (Duh.) According to McGuiness during an interview with MTV UK, the idea for the movie was to “take The Wanted to Ibiza and just film everything and then just cut bits that were useable. But the girls were models, they weren’t just girls we picked.” Although, fellow band member Max George clarified, “Actually no, the girl I had to spend time with was just literally picked up off the street after a night out.” Sigh.
The single has since debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and broke onto the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 64. While both feats are firsts for The Wanted, the band once again took the No. 1 spot on the UK charts, making it their second No. 1 single in the United Kingdom.
