STAFF PICK OF THE DAY: Don’t Spend Your Life Looking For An “Easy Way Out”

Since the phenomenal indie success of “Somebody That I Used To Know,” Gotye is onto his next artistic enterprise with “Easy Way Out.” Much like the surrealistic approach in the music video for “Somebody That I Used To Know,” (currently storming the Billboard charts) the video for “Easy Way Out” interlaces reality with the stuff of dreams.
In a stop-motion clip that took nine months to produce, the two-minute compilation features Gotye going through his daily routine of waking up, smoking and sipping coffee, typing away at work, showering, then falling into a slumber to repeat the process. Soon however, we see the different stages of his daily grind melding into one another and Gotye grows wearier and wearier as his reality deteriorates around him.
The dreamy lyrics and beat easily intertwine with this beautiful capture of what the toll repetitiveness can take on our lives.
