STAFF PICK OF THE DAY: T.I.’s “Whatever You Like” Gets A Soulful Acoustic Makeover

Who can forget T.I.’s explicitly naughty lyrics to “Whatever You Like”? Released in 2008, the single is his most successful song to date, topping off the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks, while remaining in the top 3 for more than 3 months.

The wildly popular song was edited for the radio version. With “Baby I can treat you so special, so nice” and “Girl, you smell so fresh and look so nice” replacing more risqué lines.

However, Anya Marina, a lovely singer-songwriter from San Diego, has taken it upon herself to give T.I.’s little number her own twist. Marina’s work gained famed through features on several shows on the tele, including Grey’s Anatomy and How I Met Your Mother. This repertoire includes a cover of “Whatever You Like,” which was played for an episode on the socialite-loving Gossip Girl. 

Marina gives the song the works with her personal style of indie crooning and acoustic magic. Her soft, alluring vocals contrast against the song’s wanton lyrics, resulting in an in an incredibly intoxicating version of T.I.’s “Whatever You Like.”
