STAFF PICK OF THE DAY: Jack Johnson Makes You Want To Take A Vacation

Jack Johnson has always been one of those artists that can immediately put you in a good mood.

“Runaway Baby” is a retro-rolling single from Bruno Mars’ debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. The song carries old-school vibes and guitar heavy sounds. Mars performed the song at this year’s 2012 Grammy Awards. Decked out in a gold suit + bowtie and flanked by backup singers in matching outfits and supported by a full band, the “Just The Way You Are” chart-topper made ladies in the audience swoon with his slick moves on stage.

Since the phenomenal indie success of “Somebody That I Used To Know,” Gotye is onto his next artistic enterprise with “Easy Way Out.” Much like the surrealistic approach in the music video for “Somebody That I Used To Know,” (currently storming the Billboard charts) the video for “Easy Way Out” interlaces reality with the stuff of dreams.

Following it’s debut at the 2012 Grammys, Katy Perry’s new single “Part Of Me” launches to the top of the Billboard charts– marking her seventh No. 1 on the Hot 100. Of course, it’s impossible to ignore the song’s timely release — the “E.T.” crooner recently divorced ex-husband Russel Brand, causing a media frenzy of twitter gossip and hubbub.

Canadian Idol finalist, Carly Rae Jepsen, delivers an addicting pop jam off her EP, Curiosity. The flirty track topped the Canadian Hot 100 and garnered a flurry of media attention thanks to pivotal support from Justin Bieber, whose School Boy label she is signed with.

Former member of The Format, Nate Ruess, returns with the hit single “We Are Young” with his newly formed band fun. The New York indie group collaborates with tuxedo fresh, Janelle Monáe (one of soul’s primmest artists today) for the track.

The weather has been a bit temperamental here in Southern California. A bit of rain one day, then sunny skies and 80 degrees the next, and since we seem to be on a pick-of-the-day-reflecting-the-weather trend, today’s Pick of the Day goes to Bruno Mar’s “It Will Rain” single.

Our Anti-Valentine’s Staff Pick of the Day goes to…”Rolling In The Deep” by Adele. But in all honestly, are you really surprised? If you don’t remember Adele’s explosive performance at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, “Rolling In The Deep” is the ultimate breakup song of love lost and scorned.

Since it’s Valentine’s Day and cupids and hearts are floating in the air, all the PDA and pink teddy bears got to us and we couldn’t help but get in the festive mood. So to mark this day of couple wonderland and single awareness, we’ve picked two different songs as Staff Pick of the Day — one for all the lovebirds unabashedly snogging and one for all the lone cats on the prowl. Yes, that was a cat analogy.
Our Pr0-Valentine’s Day Pick: Taylor Swift “Ours”
I mean, how could we not pick a track by Taylor Swift? The Grammy-winning, country-pop crooner is an expert on aww-worthy singles. Whether it’s singing about her high school crush or putting all her exes on blast, Swift is the go-to-gal for all things pertaining to the heart, which is why “Ours” is the perfect song to play for your petite ami.
