Launching a business is a formidable challenge, and for entrepreneurs in economically disadvantaged areas, these difficulties are magnified. With limited support and a customer base grappling with the impacts of soaring inflation and escalating housing costs, the hurdles are substantial. Recognizing these struggles, entrepreneur and finance expert Roman Sledziejowski established the Success Angels Foundation to offer much-needed support.
As a Polish immigrant in New York City, Sledziejowski faced the challenge of proving himself among his more privileged classmates. His relentless drive to succeed led him to become Valedictorian of his high school class and secure a place at Columbia University to study Economics. Yet, it was a part-time job he held during high school that would unexpectedly pave the way for his future and unlock new opportunities for this dedicated athlete.
At the age of 17, Roman Sledziejowski launched his career at Salomon Smith Barney, as a member of the Travelers Group. By 18, he had made history as the youngest individual in the U.S. to obtain a license from the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and secured a full-time position as an Investment Associate at Smith Barney, now part of Citigroup.
Over the years, Sledziejowski has held prominent positions such as Vice President and First Vice President of Investments at Prudential Securities, and later Senior Vice President and Investment Officer at Wachovia Securities before venturing into entrepreneurship. He went on to establish Innovest Holdings, a financial holding company based in New York City; co-founded MyPlace Development, a real estate firm in Poznan, Poland; and most recently, co-founded Savant Strategies, a global management consulting firm.
With a wealth of experience spanning stock trading, real estate, offshore investments, and consulting, Sledziejowski has acquired a deep understanding of the essential elements for business success. Recognizing that not everyone has access to the opportunities and resources he was fortunate to receive, he was inspired to create the Success Angels Foundation (SAF). This initiative is dedicated to empowering emerging entrepreneurs who lack access to mentors and resources, sharing their expertise and support with those who need it most.
Exploring the Impact of the Success Angels Foundation
The Success Angels Foundation (SAF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and mentoring emerging entrepreneurs and start-ups, particularly in underserved communities.
Roman Sledziejowski, the founder of SAF, describes these communities as “those that have been historically underrepresented in policymaking and government and private economic activities, bear a disproportionate health and environmental burden, poor educational infrastructure, are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts due to fewer resources, and are adversely impacted by rising housing costs and the resulting displacement and relocation that limits the growth of emerging communities.”
SAF’s mission is straightforward yet profound: to equip start-ups with financial support and educational resources. This enables them to refine their ideas, build successful ventures, and stimulate economic growth within their communities. To fulfill this mission, SAF offers a comprehensive array of programs and services designed to assist entrepreneurs at every stage of their business development.
Mentorship Program
SAF’s mentorship initiative connects novice entrepreneurs with seasoned experts, fostering a dynamic environment of guidance and support. This program is designed to enhance the likelihood of success by providing valuable insights, advice, and practical assistance. Proven to expedite growth and help navigate common pitfalls, working with a mentor significantly boosts the chances of achieving business goals.
Funding Support
Eligible candidates can access crucial early-stage funding through SAF’s grants and low-interest loans, which provide essential financial support for emerging entrepreneurs. As their ventures expand, SAF further aids in securing larger investments by facilitating introductions to venture capitalists and angel investors, ensuring continued growth and development.
Training and Education
To thrive, entrepreneurs need a solid grasp of business planning, marketing, financial management, and legal matters. SAF addresses this need by providing a range of workshops, seminars, and educational programs designed to equip business owners with essential skills for success and sustained growth. These training opportunities are crafted to help entrepreneurs gain the expertise needed to excel in their ventures.
Networking
SAF fosters growth and collaboration by organizing events such as networking sessions and pitch competitions. These gatherings enable entrepreneurs to connect with fellow professionals, potential investors, and industry experts. By engaging with peers and showcasing their ventures, entrepreneurs can unlock opportunities for collaboration, gain valuable exposure, and advance their businesses.
SAF delivers more than just hope and support to the entrepreneurs it backs; it also enriches the communities where these businesses operate. The job opportunities generated bolster local economies and create a ripple effect of inspiration, leaving a lasting legacy of positive impact with each entrepreneur who thrives through SAF’s resources.
Transforming Communities Through Economic Growth
Sledziejowski understands that the development and success of businesses in struggling communities can have profound, long-lasting effects. Economic hardship affects nearly every aspect of life, from social and economic stability to physical health and overall quality of life. Shortened life expectancies, pervasive poverty, linguistic isolation, diminished property values, and high rates of chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes are all too common in these areas.
“We look to reverse alarming trends in economically disadvantaged communities in the United States with a focus on entrepreneurship and start-up innovation by and for the benefit of historically marginalized low-income communities and communities of color,” Sledziejowski explains. “The Success Angels Foundation is a project with tremendous potential and backed by a talented and dedicated volunteer team.”
Spreading the Prosperity
As Vice-Chairman of Savant Strategies, an international management consulting firm, Sledziejowski leverages his extensive experience to guide middle-market companies across Latin America, Europe, and South Africa. With over twenty years of experience in founding and leading highly successful enterprises, he is now dedicated to sharing the vast resources and insights he has accumulated throughout his career.
Roman Sledziejowski harnesses the power of the Success Angels Foundation to drive meaningful global change. His unwavering belief in the life-changing potential of entrepreneurship fuels his mission to uplift both aspiring business owners and the communities they serve. Through this non-profit initiative, Sledziejowski aims to create lasting positive impacts in economically challenged areas, fostering opportunities and growth for years to come.
